A balanced first period
Stuart Skinner scored his 40th goal of the season. On the other side, Jeremy Swayman played the game. The crowd at Rogers Place Arena waited just under three minutes for the opening goal of the game.
However, to the chagrin of the home fans, Stuart Skinner scored first off the stick of Morgan Geeki. The home side’s answer came less than 9 minutes later when Warren Foegele beat Swayman after a pass from Connor McDavid . The game was then tied.
Boston dominated the second period
Boston only sent nine shot attempts at Skinner in the second period, but it taught Edmonton a lesson in productivity. And that’s because three pucks found their way behind Skinner’s back. Captain Brad Marchand broke the shooting jinx in the 25th second, scoring his 26th goal and 52nd point of the season.
Moments later, Trent Frederic had already put the Bruins into a two-goal lead. And in the 14th minute, Boston was already up 4-1 after a goal by Jake DeBrusk. David Pastrňák contributed to the goal with a pass. Edmonton was able to tie the score by the end of the period with Foegele’s second goal of the game.
Edmonton takes the reins in the final period
Edmonton came into the final period in style. Not only did they outshot their opponent quite clearly, but they also converted their chances successfully. In the 7th minute, Edmonton beat goalie Swayman twice in 70 seconds, after goals by Mattias Janmark and Perry. Veteran Correy Perry played only 9 games for the Oilers and scored his 3rd goal.
It was a very important goal that tied the game at 4:4. In the 13th minute it was the turn of Czech forward Pastrnak, who scored his 36th goal and 82nd point of the season to take the lead back to the Bruins.
Less than a minute later, Zach Hyman tied the game again with his 34th goal of the season. McDavid contributed with his second assist of the game. He now has 85 points in the Canadian scoring and is three points behind Pastrnak.
In addition, McDavid has recorded 14 assists in the last five games. With 64 assists, he is the best in the league this season. By the end of the third period, the game was unchanged. The game went into overtime, where Charlie McAvoy decided the game at 63:10 after assists from DeBrusk and Zacha.
For the unbiased spectator it was a very nice game, 11 goals were scored. But the goalies, of course, weren’t too happy. Skinner scored 6 goals and had 30 successful saves. Swayman, on the other hand, scored five times and had 37 saves.
