The European Conference League kicked off and unfortunately it was not without problems in Nice, France. Before the game started, both fan camps clashed, and one of the fans fell from a height of five metres and is in critical condition.
The Cologne fans had travelled to Nice for the Conference Europa League match in a crowd of eight thousand, which already indicated that there might be a problem.
Unfortunately, this was also confirmed, with hundreds of them entering the home side’s cauldron before the game, resulting in a melee. All sorts of pyrotechnics flew from one side to the other.
However, the worst moment of the dispute was the fall of one of the supporters from the stands. He fell to the ground from a height of around five metres and is now in a critical condition, according to AFP.
The police tried to save the situation with tear gas, but they could not prevent this unfortunate event. The match was then postponed for almost an hour.
Photos and videos of the hooligans’ fight have been all over the internet and are sure to be seen for a few more days. Both clubs will certainly face heavy fines and possibly closed stands.
