Video: Big accident in Formula 3! Roman Stanek’s teammate crashes into a barrier at high speed
Formula 3 races always offer a thrilling spectacle. Thanks to monoblocks that are significantly smaller than those in Formula 1, there is more frequent overtaking and jockeying for position on the track. But overtaking always carries with it the risk of a collision, as Zane Maloney and Oliver Goethe reminded us at Spa in Belgium.
In the F3 sprint race in Belgium, the safety car took to the track for the first time after the second lap. Christian Mansell, a rider from the honorable Charouz Racing System stable, crashed in the Les Combes corners.
After the safety car, the battle on the track began again. Roman Stanek in the Trident was chasing Oliver Goeth, who was running in fifth place. The Danish-German driver came out of turn 14 partly on gravel and had a slow exit for the long passage, which is full throttle until the last chicane.
The Czech driver got ahead of Goeth without too much trouble. But the Campos driver was attacked straight away by Zane Maloney.
His teammate Stanek collided with Goeth in a very fast corner and crashed hard into the barrier. His car then bounced into the air and spun so that the Barbadian hit the roof of the car. Fortunately, he spun back on his wheels and walked away from the accident.
Due to lengthy repairs to the barrier, red flags were displayed on the track and the race was suspended.
After the restart, Roman Stanek’s big ride began. He fought his way up to third place. Due to a penalty on Jonny Edgar, he ended up finishing second.
The Czech driver stood on the podium for the third time this season and closed the gap on the leading Hadjar-Martins pair.
