For example, Sunday afternoon was also dedicated to football, specifically the bronze medal match in the Nations League, in addition to the MotoGP race. Italy eventually dominated the match, beating their opponents narrowly 3:2.

The fans watching the third place match in the Nations League did not have to wait too long for the first goal. Already in the sixth minute Federic Dimarco took advantage of a pass from Giacomo Raspadori and opened the scoring with a beautiful shot into the right corner – 1:0 for Italy.

After that, however, the Dutch were more often on the ball, but they didn’t get any big or even special scoring opportunities.

On the contrary, they scored again in the 20th minute. This time, Davide Frattesi was among the scorers as he headed the ball into Justin Bijlow’s net.

Seven minutes later, the Italians had another chance. But this time Dimarco’s shot missed the space between the three posts. At the end of the first half, Mateo Retegui committed a borderline foul and referee Glenn Nyberg had to consult the video referee.

And based on that consultation, he did not award the Dutch the advantage of a penalty kick. Italy went into the booths with a 2: 0 scoreline. In the second act, Ronald Koeman’s charges were again a bit more active.

In the 68th minute they scored their first goal. Steven Bergwijn took a shot in the penalty area and headed the ball into the Italian net. But the one-goal difference didn’t last long.

Four minutes later, the Italians scored another goal. Federico Chiesa from the left wing got the ball past the goalkeeper and increased his team’s lead to 3-1.

The Dutch equalised in the 82nd minute when Wout Weghorst hit the bar. However, the head referee, after consulting the video referee, disallowed the goal due to offside. The goal to make it 2: 3 came in the 89th minute. It was scored by Georginio Wijnaldum.

But the Netherlands did not manage anything else. The Italians won 3: 2 and thus successfully won the bronze medal.
