Ronald Araujo suffered a concussion during a collision with teammate Gavi in a match against Celta Vigo and was taken to hospital for further testing. An ambulance had to go directly to the pitch to pick up the player.
In the 36th round, Celta Vigo visited Barcelona’s stadium. The match was no longer important for both teams, but the 60th minute incident will be talked about more than the result.
Two Barcelona players, namely Gavi and Ronaldo Araujo, jumped into a high ball. While Gavi stayed on the ground, Araujo went to continue the game.
After about ten seconds, however, he went down. His teammates immediately called medical staff and an ambulance eventually had to come to the pitch for the player.
Barcelona subsequently confirmed that the player had a concussion and was taken to hospital for further testing. Approximately 10 minutes elapsed between the incident and the ambulance’s departure.
The stadium then applauded him, Gavi did not have to make a substitution and play resumed. Even at that point the scoreboard was already showing 3-1, with Aubameyang scoring twice, Depay scoring once and the visiting Aspas scoring once.
The fans at Camp Nou didn’t see any more goals and the match ended 3-1. Barcelona are already close to securing second place, Celta Vigo will finish in the middle of the table.
