VIDEO: AS Roma showed how much they appreciate the loyalty of their fans. The oldest season ticket holder was able to enjoy his moment with the European trophy

A great thing has happened in Rome. AS won the European trophy for the first time in 14 years. It became the first winner of the European Conference League. But it wasn’t just the players who enjoyed the trophy. An extremely loyal fan was also rewarded.

Before last season, some very interesting things happened in Rome. The legendary Jose Mourinho came in as the new coach and brought in some interesting footballers. A great example has to be Tammy Abraham, who scored goal after goal.

The Portuguese strategist has come up with a long-term plan for the club. Immediate success on any front wasn’t too much to be reckoned with. If only because the last trophy AS Roma won was in the 2007/08 season.

Even though the Roman side has since had a stronger squad than the one it entered the last season with, Mourinho has managed to instil the team with his legendary discipline, unity and winning mentality. There was a special aura around the team that was felt by the fans.

And that is exactly what led AS Roma to their first trophy in 14 years. It was a spectacular achievement for Mourinho’s wolf pack, after which there was much celebration, duly enjoyed not only by the players but also by the fans.

One fan, however, has now been given the wonderful privilege of thanking them for their loyalty. At 96, Giorgio is the oldest season ticket holder. And he’s been a fan of the club since Guido Masetti shone, which was from 1930 to 1943.

He was visited by the club’s general manager, Tiago Pinto, who treated him to a few hours with the trophy won with the club by Mourinho and his charges.
