Last season, the Gunners were relatively close to the title after a long time. But they finally lost it at the end of spring. One of the main reasons was the narrow bench.
Mikel Arteta decided to change that in the summer. That’s why Declan Rice arrived for a record amount for the Englishman, then Kai Havertz from Chelsea and Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
Rice and Timber jumped into the starting line-up and helped to their first win of the season. The foundations for the three points were laid in the 26th minute by Gabriel Martinelli, who made a fantastic break between defenders, passed the ball to Eddie Nketiah, who made no mistake in finishing.
Five minutes later, Arsenal were two goals up. The fans at the Emirates Stadium were introduced to the team’s main star and author of the 14+11 record from last season’s Premier League, Bukayo Saka.
The England international took the ball from William Saliba, dragged the ball into the middle and curled the ball into the net with his powerful left foot.
But Nottingham then made the game even more dramatic when Taiwo Awoniyi scored in the 82nd minute. Arsenal had already sealed the result after that, though, and kicked off the new Premier League season with a win.
After winning the Comunnity Shield on penalties against Manchester City, Arsenal had a good start to the new season. Next week they will play at Crystal Palace.
