Sunday afternoon offered us the Battle of London, featuring Chelsea and Arsenal. The seventh-placed team hosted a team at their stadium that, if they won, could return to first place. Arsenal were the slight favourites due to their position in the league, but such important matches are often decided by small details, where all it takes is a small hesitation and the favourite will not win.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who served as Arsenal’s captain, made his first appearance against his former teammates. However, he hasn’t done too well in a Chelsea jersey so far, so he definitely wanted to make amends against his former friends.

The away side took the initial pressure. Arsenal managed to clamp Chelsea at their own penalty area, combine in front of it and try to send in centres. However, they didn’t get any serious threats on goal.

Arsenal got their first threat on goal in the 10th minute when Ben White got to the ball. His shot just missed the left post.

The Chelsea players showed up after half an hour of play, but this is nothing to be commended. In fact, Aubameyang made a nasty tackle and earned himself a yellow card. At the other end, Gabriel Jesus had a great chance, but just missed a header that could have been very dangerous.

Arsenal retaliated for the dangerous foul a few minutes later. First, Jesus got his chance, which was saved by Édouard Mendy. From the ensuing corner kick taken by Saka, the ball flew to Gabriel, who put Arsenal in front.

A great solo across half the pitch was shown by Jesus who, with 15 minutes to go, put Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s captain, in a great position to shoot over after a great through pass.
