Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table after one day, winning convincingly 3-0 at Brentford. William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira scored for the first time since his transfer from Porto.
Arsenal struck first in the second minute, but Gabriel Martinelli slipped in a good position and missed the ball perfectly. Brentford, too, were angry in front of the home fans but failed to score in the final stages.
In the 18th minute, the Gunners went ahead. William Saliba pounced on a corner kick and scored with the help of the back post.
And ten minutes later, it was two goals to the good. Gabriel Jesus pounced on Granit Xhaka’s centre and gave the home goalkeeper no chance.
After that Brentford had a good passage of play but didn’t get a good finish from it. Arsenal went into the box with a 2-0 lead.
The Gunners increased their lead again right after the change of sides. Fabio Vieira tapped the ball in from outside the box and David Raya had no chance. It was Vieira’s first competitive goal on his Premier League debut.
The third goal seemed to send both teams into a more comfortable frame of mind, with both approaching it from that point onwards with the outcome clear. It wasn’t until Bukayo Saka fired in the 66th minute that Raya had to flash a great save.
At the other end, Mikkel Damsgaard tried his luck, but Aaron Ramsdale made the save. The game was all but over and the Gunners won 3-0. The youngest player in the history of the Premier League, Ethan Nwaneri, made his debut in the setup.
