Czech midfielder Antonín Barák made his return to the starting line-up for Fiorentina and scored the only goal of the game to decide the Copa Italia semi-final against Sampdoria Genoa. His volley was truly exemplary.
The Pribram alumnus is still getting to know his new place after arriving from Verona. So far he has managed to score five competitive goals. He scored three of them in the regular group of the European Conference League.
In the last league match Barak sat only on the substitutes’ bench, now he could celebrate his return to the starting line-up with the winning goal against Sampdoria Genoa.
The national midfielder came through in the 25th minute and his goal was worth it. After a rebound in the Genoa penalty area, the ball rebounded to Barak, who uncompromisingly fired it into the top corner of the opponents’ goal.
Fiorentina reached the semi-finals of the Copa Italia last season, in which they lost to Juventus Turin. It has a lot to build on.
In the quarter-finals, it will face the other Turin side, FC Torino, for whom international David Zima plays.
Torino unexpectedly knocked out AC Milan at the famous San Siro. The match was a long wait for a goal, then Turin went shorthanded when defender Djidji was shown a red card.
Zima also got into the game and helped Torino to keep the scoreless situation until the 114th minute of extra time, in which midfielder Michel Adapo scored.
