The Vegas Golden Knights are the winner of this year’s NHL playoffs, reaching the top step for the first time in the club’s short history. And thus winning the Stanley Cup. The Vegas Golden Knights are the winner of this year’s NHL playoffs, reaching the top step for the first time in the club’s short history. And thus winning the Stanley Cup. But there was a lot to see in the last game against Florida. One of the things that stood out the most was probably Adin Hill’s amazing save.
Mark Stone scored the opening goal of the fifth game of the final series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers.
Bruce Cassidy’s men scored once more before the end of the first period to make it 2-0.
The Panthers reduced the game to a one-goal difference at the start of the second period when defenseman Aaron Ekblad put the puck in Adin Hill’s net. But from the second half on, it was the home team’s quest for the Stanley Cup.
The Golden Knights struck four times during the middle period. Stone scored another goal, Alec Martinez, Reilly Smith and Mike Amadio also scored.
Vegas went into the final period with a five-goal lead. Florida could have cut it to 2-6 in the seventh minute of the third period, but goalie Hill made a phenomenal save.
Twenty-seven-year-old Vegas’ number one goalie made a stunning stop of Anthony Duclair’s puck, which was addressed to him by his first-line teammate Aleksander Barkov.
The story of the playoffs
Hill wasn’t a number one goalie at first. He only played 27 games in the regular season, but in any case, Vegas had five goaltending changes over the course of the season. Jonathan Quick was one of them.
Original number one Robin Lehner was out for the season due to hip surgery, and his successor Logan Thompson was injured during the previous season. Czech youngster Jiri Petera also got a chance in two games.
Many expected the Golden Knights to send the experienced Quick to the net in the playoffs, but Laurent Brossoit was supposed to play the role of number one. However, he was injured in the third game of the first round against Edmonton and Hill was definitely put in goal.
And since then, he has been doing magic in the Golden Knights’ goal. In the playoffs, he had an amazing save percentage (.932). In this year’s playoffs, he had 488 shots, 455 of which he covered. In sixteen games, he allowed 33 goals, an average of 2.17 goals allowed per game.
Stanley Cup for Vegas
Hill seized his chance in a big way and was one of the cornerstones in the chase for the Stanley Cup. The home team struck three more times in the third period. Stone scored a hat trick and Ivan Barbashev and Nicolas Roy also scored.
For Florida, Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett were the only players to make cuts. However, the outcome was decided after the second period. Vegas clearly proved that the Stanley Cup is in the right hands this year with a score of 9:3.
