For one West Ham fan, a trip to Alkmaar turned into quite a wilderness. After the game, angry home ultras tried to get into the sector where the families of West Ham players were sitting, but one single fan fought off the raid and is a hero.

Football-wise, it’s a fairytale. Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal return to Eden, to the stadium of Slavia, from where they came to West Ham.

It’s a matter of the heart for both of them, and the Hammers fans, who have also grown to love Slavia thanks to these transfers, are also happy. West Ham will be playing in a European final after 47 years.

But there was another genre of drama unfolding in the stands. West Ham won the home game 2-1, and in the return leg we watched a goalless draw for a long time, until Fornals added an insurance goal in the 94th minute.

The home Ultras couldn’t breathe and decided to act. They wanted to take it up with the West Ham fans and started to rush to the sector where the players’ families were sitting.

As the group in black made their way up the stairs, they encountered an unexpected obstacle. A West Ham fan nicknamed “Knollsy” stood in their way.

He gave a few of the Dutchmen a hard time, and eventually the Ultras AZ decided to pull out. The video went viral and “Knollsy” became an absolute hero.

“Knollsy is a legend. He stopped the home fans from getting to the players’ families. Give him a ticket to the finals, ” wrote one fan, adding an explanation.

“We were sitting behind Thilo Kehrer’s girlfriend. Knollsy was worried about her and went to the top of the stairs where he stopped the onslaught of Alkmaar Ultras. He’s a great guy and he did what he thought was right at the time. He stopped the fans,” wrote a Hammers fan.

Fans, of course, are unanimous in their praise for Knollsy and consider him a hero. But at the same time, they didn’t forgive a little humor. “It looks like a scene from Lord of the Rings, ” wrote a fan. “He looks like Hodor from Game of Thrones,” another added. “I thought it was King Leonidas holding back the Persians, ” added another fan.
