Vidal threatened: ‘Real Madrid, we’ll tear your ass up! But his Flamengo fell out with Al Hilal at the Club World Cup
Arturo Vidal has been one of those players who likes to open his mouth and provoke his opponents throughout his career. That hasn’t changed even after leaving Europe. But this time, it certainly didn’t go the way the Chilean midfielder wanted.
Arturo Vidal has been one of those players who likes to open his mouth and provoke his opponents throughout his career. That hasn’t changed even after leaving Europe. But this time, it certainly didn’t go the Chilean midfielder’s way.
Real Madrid were the first club to win the Champions League to secure their place at the Club World Cup, with Brazil’s Flamengo the next in line to win the Copa Libertadores.
This was a great glory for Arturo Vidal, as the Chilean midfielder showed his hatred for Real Madrid often and loudly.
It all sort of started in the 2016/17 season when he played for Bayern Munich. He was sent off in the quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabéu and complained a lot about the referee after the game.
“Two offside goals,” Vidal complained, ” Casemiro wasn’t sent off and should have gone off before me. When you’re robbed like that, it’s too much. It was really ugly,”complained the Chilean.
“These were big mistakes. The referee sent us off, not Real Madrid. This kind of robbery cannot happen in the Champions League,” Vidal raged at the time.
The next season, in the semi-final against Juventus, Real were awarded a speculative penalty after a foul on Lucas Vázquez and Vidal again criticised. “He didn’t even touch him! It ‘s happening again,” he wrote on his social networks at the time.
When Bayern then faced Real Madrid again, Vidal wrote on his Twitter account, “The retribution will be sweet.” He didn’t play the match in the end due to injury, but Real went on to advance thanks to a 2-2 draw in the rematch, and Vidal wrote on his Instagram:: “Rats”.
When Vidal then moved to Barcelona, his hatred for Real Madrid grew even more. He still supported it afterwards when he played for Inter Milan, only he always succumbed to Real there.
Real, we’re gonna kick your [bleep] ass!
But he took his hatred to Flamengo. During the Copa Libertadores celebrations, he took the microphone and sent a threatening message to Real Madrid, who he will play at the Club World Cup. “Real Madrid, we’re going to tear your ass up!”
Real Madrid and Flamengo, as the two seeded teams, were only given the opportunity to play in the semi-finals. Seattle Sounders, Al Ahly, Auckland City, Wydad Casablanca and Al Hilal had to fight it out from the eighth round or quarter-finals.
Real got Al Ahly in the semifinals, Flamengo got Al Hilal. Both European and South American teams were expected to handle their opponents without any worries and split it up in the final. But Vidal’s plan was in tatters.
Al Hilal went into a quick lead, Flamengo equalised but before half time Gerson saw a red card. Al Dawsari sent the Saudis back into the lead from the second penalty. Al Hilal then added a third goal, Vidal came on in the 81st minute and Flamengo only reduced it to 2: 3.
Vidal’s plainspokenness thus did not work again, and he must hope that Real Madrid will drop out in the semi-finals so that he can execute his plan in the third place match.
