Vidal: Real Madrid have robbed me several times in my career. The referees helped them, I could have won the Champions League twice
Arturo Vidal has never made any secret of his hatred for Real Madrid. And even now that he’s no longer playing at the highest level, he’s leaning into the Madrid club during a Twitch stream.
Arturo Vidal has never made any secret of his hatred for Real Madrid. And even now that he’s no longer playing at the highest level, he’s leaning into the Madrid club during a Twitch stream.
Vidal’s hatred for Real Madrid sort of started in the 2016/17 season when he played for Bayern Munich. He was sent off in the quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabéu and complained a lot about the referees after the game.
“Two offside goals,” Vidal complained. “Casemiro wasn’t sent off and should have gone before me. When you’re robbed like that, it’s too much. It was really ugly,” the Chilean grumbled.
“These were big mistakes. We were sent off by the referee, not Real Madrid. This kind of robbery can’t happen in the Champions League,” Vidal raged at the time.
The next season, in the semi-final against Juventus, Real were awarded a speculative penalty after a foul on Lucas Vázquez and Vidal again criticised. “He didn’t even touch him! It ‘s happening again,” he wrote on his social networks at the time.
When Bayern then faced Real Madrid again, Vidal wrote on his Twitter account“The retribution will be sweet.” He didn’t play the match in the end due to injury, but Real went on to advance thanks to a 2-2 draw in the rematch, and Vidal wrote on his Instagram: “Rats.” When Vidal then moved to Barcelona, his hatred for Real Madrid grew even more.
I’ve been robbed so many times!
And now he has complained about Real Madrid again. In a Twitch stream with a streamer called “La Cobra”, they discussed both former Real games.
“It was terrible at their stadium. The first half was really weird. We could have won the Champions League twice,” Vidal recalled of the 2016-17 semifinal.
His colleague asked him if he thought Real were aided by the referees, to which Vidal had a clear answer. “There is a lot of pressure. I, because of what I’ve been through, think so,” Vidal said.
“I’ve seen so many steals against Real Madrid that sometimes I forget the details. So many times my team has been robbed!” complained Vidal.
The Chilean footballer is currently playing for Brazilian side Athletico-PR, where he left after a year at Flamengo. When the Brazilian side won the Copa Libertadores in February, Vidal started singing ” Real Madrid, we’re going to kick your ass” during the celebrations.
But Flamengo lost 2-3 to Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup and never even got to play Real Madrid.
