For 11 long years Marco Verratti has been a loyal servant of PSG. Now, however, the time has come for his departure. The Italian midfielder is also moving to the Middle East, but not to Saudi Arabia.
Marco Verratti has been an extremely important player for PSG. In attack, he always had big stars in front of him who didn’t want to defend too much. So Verratti, as a versatile midfielder, had his hands full and occupied an enormous amount of space.
But that didn’t stop him from doing great things with the ball either. Not for nothing was he, according to some, the most important player in the team.
He arrived in Paris in 2012 as a 19-year-old from Pescara in Italy. He showed such great talent in Serie B that PSG paid €12 million for him.
At PSG, Verratti then immediately got into the line-up and started to show his potential. He eventually played 416 games in 11 seasons, lifting the Ligue 1 trophy nine times, the Coupe de France 6 times, the Coupe de la Ligue 6 times and the French Super Cup 9 times. He thus collected the most trophies not only in the history of PSG, but also in the history of Ligue 1.
But now it’s time for a change. The 30-year-old midfielder had already attracted great interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia in the summer. PSG did not want to let him leave then, but now they have found a consensus.
However, Verratti will not go to Arabia, where he would meet several stars, but to Qatar. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is a verbal agreement between the two parties and Verratti is expected to sign in the next 24 hours.
PSG will collect €45 million from the Al Arabi club. Meanwhile, this is not the first deal Al Arabi and PSG have done together this summer. In fact, 27-year-old defender Abdou Diallo and 30-year-old Brazilian Raphinha have left Paris for Qatar.
