Vecino scores a great shot to secure Napoli’s second defeat. See what chances players on both sides blew

On Friday night, Napoli faced only the second opponent this season that managed to take all the points. In a wild game, Matías Vecino made sure of it, sending an unstoppable shot from outside the box straight behind goalkeeper Alex Meret, for whom it was the 16th league goal this season.

Napoli have been on a killer run this season, taking 17 games before anyone could beat them. That winning team was Liverpool in the Champions League, who beat the Italian side 2-0 at Anfield.

In Serie A, a similar feat was achieved in January by Inter, who also managed to beat Napoli 1:0 at home thanks to Edin Džeko’s goal. However, Milan were certainly not the better team in this match.

Shortly after that, the Neapolitan players were beaten by Cremonese in a cup match, but only on penalties.

Then followed a series of 7 wins in a row, after which another sad evening was prepared for them by Lazio on Friday night, who thanks to a great goal by Vecino took 3 points from Naples.

But as you could see, the game was full of shocking moments for both sides. The Serie A leaders enjoyed 64.8% of the ball possession and sent a total of 14 shots at Ivan Provedel’s goal, but only 2 went into the space between the three posts.

Napoli certainly don’t have to worry about that though, they have a 17 point lead over the Roman side, who are currently second, which is a luxury considering there are 13 league rounds left in the season.

Napoli, however, will continue to face tough duels as they face Atalanta in the next league round and then face a rematch with Frankfurt in the Champions League.

However, the game against the German side was well played, with Napoli winning 2-0 away from home, plus a red card will prevent key striker Randal Kolo Muani from playing.
