Ralf Rangnick has ruled out the departure of his two charges from Old Trafford. The German coach believes in keeping Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek.
Ralf Rangnick has ruled out the departure of his two charges from Old Trafford. The German coach believes in keeping Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek at least until the end of the current season.
El Matador stays
A failed start to the season, a change at the coaching post and unrelenting speculation about changes to the squad resonate across the red part of Manchester. After Rangnick joined the Red Devils in November, a question mark hung over the future of several players. The clouds of speculation were also gathering over Cristiano Ronaldo.
At the press conference before the game against Wolverhampton, the German strategist spoke, among other things, about the situation surrounding two of his players. “Cavani will definitely not leave in January. We have spoken several times, he is a very important player for me. He knows I won’t let him leave – we need Edi,” Rangnick commented on the situation around the Uruguayan footballer.
The 34-year-old striker has been plagued by injuries this season and has only featured in ten games. He has scored two goals. After returning from sickness, Cavani secured a point at St. James’ Park and contributed to the win over Burnley with a good performance.
Rangnick’s words about the importance of the South American sniper are slowly being confirmed. An extension of the player’s contract, which expires at the end of June, could be in play.
The Dutchman is still waiting for an opportunity
The future is not so bright for another Red Devils player. Even after the coaching reshuffle, van de Beek is not getting the minutes he needs. The Dutch midfielder has only watched the last two games as a substitute. In the 2021/2022 season, he only saw the pitch in twelve games, mostly in the final minutes.
“I still believe we should keep Donny van de Beek. He should definitely stay until the end of the season,” the German strategist told a press conference on Sunday. But the development of the Manchester engagement depends a lot on the player himself.
“I have spoken to him a lot in the last week – work hard and you can do it. ” It will take a lot of effort for the 24-year-old Dutchman to break into Manchester United’s starting line-up.
A light playing load could also cost the former Ajax Amsterdam player a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. “Of course, he also wants to play for the Dutch national team,” the 63-year-old coach concluded.
Van de Beek is under contract at Manchester United until June 2025. Will the Dutch midfielder make a game-changing move or will the fair-haired midfielder change clubs?
