Valencia has had his penalty reduced for racist abuse of Vinícius! The reason is supposed to be cooperation on the identification of the suspects
Racism will probably never completely disappear from football. Real Madrid’s Brazilian Vinícius Jr. is experiencing it first-hand, and is constantly insulted by opposing fans. Valencia received a punishment for the behaviour of their supporters, but this has now been commuted.
Racism will probably never completely disappear from football. Real Madrid’s Brazilian Vinícius Jr. is experiencing it first-hand, and is constantly insulted by opposing fans. Valencia received a punishment for the behaviour of their supporters, but this has now been commuted.
The young Brazilian winger has been the target of racist chants from Real Madrid’s rival supporters match after match. LaLiga has lodged nine complaints against the fans, but nothing major has happened.
It all escalated in the match against Valencia, where the Brazilian had himself sent off for that reason. The disciplinary committee then decided to punish the club itself.
Valencia had to pay a fine of 45,000 euros and in addition had its stadium closed for five matches. However, the club has appealed against this decision, saying that the evidence is divided.
Moreover, Valencia should have actively sought to identify the persons in question and cooperated fully with the police. It was for this reason that the change was eventually made.
Valencia’s sentence was reduced. The fine is now set at 25,000 euros and part of the stadium will be closed for three matches. At least in part, it was thus granted.
What about Vinícius? He did not receive a penalty for the red card, as he was insulted the whole game, which took a significant toll on his psyche. He didn’t play against Vallecano anyway.
The Brazilian was defended by world football stars led by Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and LaLiga president Javier Tebas then apologised to Real for the verbal altercation on social media.
