Flushing Meadows is about to reveal the last Grand Slam winners of 2021. Novak Djokovic is still in the running for the men’s Grand Slam, but no Czech tennis player will lift the trophy among the women. Let’s take a look together at the recap of the remaining quarterfinal matches of the US Open 2021.
In the men’s category, Alexander Zverev was the first to reach the semifinals at the top of the pavilion. The German tennis player did not have it easy.
In the first set, he even had to fight off a set point in a shortened game against Lloyd Harris. But then Zverev became more accurate and aggressive and advanced after a 3:0 set win.
Zverev will meet world number one Novak Djokovic, who beat Italian Berrettini 3: 1 on sets, in the last four. The Serb again lost the opening game against the sixth seed, but after that the world number one switched to a higher gear and went on to advance.
The women’s doubles is a showcase of the rise of young tennis players this year. After Leyla Annie Fernandez, the other teenager in the semi-finals is Emma Raducan, who did not give Olympic champion Belinda Bencic a chance and won in two sets.
Unfortunately, the Czech player will not face the young British player. Karolina Pliskova failed to react to her opponent’s great serve against Greece’s Sakkari and lost twice 4::6.
After the Wimbledon final, Pliskova’s Grand Slam season ends in the quarterfinals in New York. But she should not miss the Champions Tournament.
