US Open second round: another Czech derby, Kvitova advances without a fight and Serena Williams beats the world number two!

The home legend Serena Williams has knocked out the world number two Anett Kontaveit and there is no farewell yet! Iga Swiatek also continues as the seeded and world number one. Krejcikova didn’t make it through her duel with Krunic. The Czech derby was won by Karolina Pliskova.

Petra Kvitova advanced to the next round without a fight as Anhelina Kalinin withdrew from the tournament. Kateřina Siniaková said goodbye to the singles part of the tournament, as she was not able to beat Alize Cornetova, who is playing in excellent form, 6: 1, 1: 6 and 6: 3.

Karolina Pliskova managed to win her match against her compatriot Maria Bouzkova. As expected, her serve was decisive. Karolina won 90% of the balls after hitting her first serve. Maria had only one break point the whole time.

The match ended 6::3 and 6::2 and the Czech Ace Queen advanced to the next stage of the tournament at the expense of Marie Bouzkova. Linda Fruhvirtová will not be going any further. She was canned in the first set against Muguruza. The second set was much more evenly matched, but in the end Linda lost that set 6:4.

Beatriz Haddad Maia, one of the favourites for the title, is out of the tournament after she fell to Bianca Andreescu. And home No. 1 Jessica Pegula, who defeated Sasnovich 2-0.

World and seeded No. 1 Iga Swiatek also went through the tournament smoothly, knocking out the home team’s Stephens. World No. 6 Sabalenka also did not finish her journey through the tournament, defeating Estonia’s Kanepi in three sets.

Even among the men, the world number one is dominant so far. Another 3:0 result was recorded by Medvedev, this time against Rinderknech. Alcaraz’s match was just as fast, against the Argentinian Cori. Seventh seed Cameron Norrie knocked out Portugal’s Sousa after 6: 4 6: 4 and 7: 6 sets.

Rublev, Schwartzman, and Tiafoe are also next. After losing the first set, Rafael Nadal turned the match around and outplayed Fognini in sets 6::2 4::6 2::6 1::6. On the other hand, the eighth seed from Poland, Hubert Hurkacz, finishes.
