US Open: epic battle of teenagers dominated by the more experienced!

For many the pre-determined battle of the young guns brought an interesting battle of nerves especially the battle of maturity. Jannik Sinner vs Zachary Svajda. The young rifle fight was expected to be a clear cut affair.
The first set suggested that everything would go according to the expected scenario and everything would be done quickly. Young Itl Sinner dictated the pace of the game and quite calmly took the first set 6::3.
The second set, however, indicated right from the start that we could witness a longer than three set spectacle. The young American Svajda, ranked only seventh in the rankings, took a quick 3:0 lead and the match gathered momentum. Both youngsters held their serve quite easily until the score was 5: 2 for the home underdog.
The score was 5::2, 40::30, and the set point for Svajda looked clear. But as it happens in tennis, the head did not let this situation continue and errors came. A loss of serve and, world wonder, the score was 5:5! After a moment, no longer than a snap of the finger, 6::6 tiebreak. There, the more experienced Italian Sinner clearly dominated. History doesn’t ask that it was mainly cheap, unforced errors by the home player that decided the match. 2::0 Sinner!
In this situation, it’s hard to find a fan who believes in any reversal. However, Svajda did not give up, even though he quickly lost the acquired service of his opponent, he fought on and finally took the set in the closest possible form 8::6 in the tiebreak, Svajda 1::2 Sinner on sets.
The whole fourth set tested the psyche of both young tennis players. After a quick break by Sinner at 1::2, when everything looked clear again, and a quick equalizer at 2::2, we got to 4::4 30::30, when the American, two months younger, produced an unnecessary error in quick succession and then a double fault, thus deciding the match on his opponent’s side.
Despite a valiant effort in the last game of the match, the short deficit could not be reversed and the strength and superior experience of the young Italian was on full display. He didn’t hesitate, and in the last game of the match he decided the match with beautiful strokes and celebrated a difficult victory!
In conclusion, both players left their best on the court and it was really the details and mental preparedness that made the difference. It will be interesting to see how the young gun Sinner will fare in the next round against the reborn, now veteran Monfils…
