For the men, the burden is on Jiri Lehecek, who is ranked 60th.
Men
Among the men, the Czech Republic has a triple representation in the main draw. Thanks to his position in the rankings, Lehečka, who currently holds the 60th position in the ATP rankings and is thus the Czech number one, can fight for the title.
In the opening round he will face Chilean Garin, who is ranked 86th. Moreover, he hasn’t played a match in over a month and Lehečka goes into the match as a slight favourite. The match will be played on August 29 at 20:30.
For the same reason, another Jiri, this time Vesely, can also play in the tournament. He belongs to the seventh ten of the world ranking. The lottery has assigned him the top 20 seed Daniel Evans, whom he will play on August 30 at 17:00. Vesely will not have an easy start.
The last Czech to go into battle is Tomas Machac. He had to qualify first, which he did. He knocked out Kolar, Kovalik and Cobolli. In the first round of the main event, he will face Botic Van De Zandschulp, as the number 21 seed, on August 29 at 20:30.
Women
Traditionally, the Czech footprint among the women is much wider than that of the men. Currently, the highest ranked Czech is Petra Kvitova at number 21. Just one place behind Petra is Karolina Pliskova and one place behind Karolina is Barbora Krejcikova. All 3 players are seeded in the tournament, exactly according to their position in the rankings.
Kvitova will face Russian qualifier Andreeva in the first round. The duel will take place on August 31st at 17:00 and Petra is a clear favorite to advance. Karolina Pliskova will certainly be in the running as well, as she will face Poland’s Linettova in the opener. At the same time, but a day earlier, on 30 August.
Krejcikova’s draw is favourable on paper. She’ll face Mexico’s Conteras-Gomes. She has qualified and is ranked in the top 100. Krejcikova is expected to be a clear winner. The match starts on August 29th at 21:00. But it must be admitted that Bára is still searching in vain for her optimal form from last year.
Marie Bouzkova will also appear in the main draw. Unfortunately, she will meet Linda Noskova in the opening round. Bouzkova is currently ranked 41st, her younger compatriot 87th, but she is still climbing. She’s also the youngest member of the TOP100 and a huge talent. Linda knocked out Kawa, Bouchard and Zakharova in qualifying.
Noskova is more spread out, but this will be her debut at a tournament this big. Bouzkova already has a lot of experience on these big courts. An interesting duel and Czech derby starts on August 31 at 17:00.
The next Czech in action will be Katerina Siniakova. She is currently ranked 77th in the world rankings. In the opening round, her opponent will be the home team’s Townsend, who is currently ranked 198th, but has made it directly to the main draw thanks to the protection of the ladder. The duel will start on August 30 at 17:00.
A very difficult opening and a tough draw for Tereza Martincova. On August 30th at 17:00 she will face Estonian Kanepiova, who is ranked 33rd and is the highest unseeded player.
Karolína Muchová will also play at the US Open thanks to her protected ranking. Here too, the successful results and performances from the previous years are not being repeated at all, similarly to Krejcikova.
Muchová is currently only 235th in the rankings. The lottery has brought her together with Australian Tomljanovic, who will be a slight favourite in the match. The match will start on August 29 at 21:00.
The last two young and promising faces in the main draw are Sara Bejlek and Linda Fruhvirt. Sara got past Mladenovic, Honova and Watson in qualifying. Especially the final was very tense, interrupted and postponed due to rain, Sara had to turn the match around and it finally happened. So she will play her first match at an adult Grand Slam on 29 August at 22:30 against Russian Samsonova.
Linda Fruhvirt, a year older, seventeen years old, also passed the qualification. She defeated In-Albonova, Alves and Paquet.
The elder of the Wonder Sisters will face China’s Wang at the start of the main draw. Linda is the odds-on favorite despite being down about 80 spots in the rankings. The match will start on August 31st at 17:00
