Being a famous and rich footballer doesn’t mean you can get away with everything. Lately, cases of footballers having to go to court are becoming more and more common and one of them is Manchester United icon, Ryan Giggs.
He played the most games for Manchester United in history, won 13 Premier League titles, was a captain, a leader and an icon, a symbol of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
But instead of enjoying his legendary status after his career, Giggs got into a lot of trouble.
the 48-year-old Welshman has been accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her sister, as well as being manipulative and violent.
Giggs’ trial has just started today, August 9, in Manchester. If the charges are proven, the former footballer faces up to 5 years in prison.
However, Giggs has pleaded not guilty and intends to defend himself. The trial is expected to last two weeks. The author of the most starts in the Red Devils jersey was arrested by the police on November 1, 2020 at his home in Worsley.
The affair cost Giggs his job with the Wales national team, where he was coach. His place was temporarily taken over by Robert Page, who got Gareth Bale’s team round the World Cup. In June this year, Giggs officially resigned as Wales coach.
