Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden had to face the very unpleasant situation of his mother being attacked by an unknown perpetrator. A video of the incident has been leaked to the media.
the 21-year-old talent Phil Foden, who defends the colours of Manchester City and the England national team, visited the Khan vs Brook boxing match, which coincidentally took place in Manchester on Saturday night after his team’s loss to Tottenham.
In the video, unknown men can be seen chasing the young England footballer and his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke. They hurl indiscriminate abuse at the City midfielder, after which the couple disappear into a VIP room in the bowels of the Manchester AO Arena. Foden clearly doesn’t want to make any trouble and resolve the situation, only girlfriend Rebecca turns around and asks the men why they are insulting him.
After a moment, the footballer’s mum Claire, clearly distraught, bursts out of the door and launches herself at the attackers, who are still waiting in the corridor. She then shoves one of the attackers, whereupon the man punches her in the face. A messy melee ensues, with the young soccer player running in, but he doesn’t take part in the fisticuffs and just tries to defend his family. The brawl ends with an unknown man on the footballer’s side taking a fire extinguisher and driving the attackers back.
You can watch the leaked video below.
Manchester City sided with their player in a statement, according to The Sun. “The club is aware of a video posted on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed,” the club statement read.
“We are shocked and appalled at the nature of such harassment and the manner in which a member of Foden’s family has been assaulted and the club will of course show its full support to the player and his family,” the football club’s statement continued.
The rising star of English football would certainly like to forget about Saturday. Now he’ll have a week to clear his head. His next game is next Saturday at Everton.
