You have tickets to the European Football Championship, but they won’t let you cross the border. Something unlikely these days, yet it has happened to passionate Croatia fans. They told their story to the Zadarski website.
Brothers Sebastian and Simo Jagic Njare and their friends Domagoj Raljevic and Luka Vojvodic decided to watch the Euros directly from the stadium in Glasgow, despite the difficult situation caused by covid.
“We hired a private plane to see the Croatia vs. Czech Republic game in Glasgow. We had tickets and we were crazy with happiness.”
But as the time approached for landing, the pilot found out he would not be allowed into Glasgow Airport. The story is all the more interesting because the plane that the Croatian fans hired belonged to a Czech company.
“When we arrived over Scotland, the pilot told us that he had just been informed that he had to leave Scottish airspace. Due to pandemic measures, he had not been given permission to land.”
The four friends were shocked by the information, but decided to land in the Czech Republic instead of returning to their home country.
“So there we were in the air, on board the plane, wondering where to tell the pilot to ‘drop us off’ . And we decided to apply for permission to enter the Czech Republic. And so we ended up in Prague.”
They chose the Czech Republic, or Prague, not only because Croatia was playing with it, but also because they could visit the famous U Fleků pub, where, among other things, the Hajduk Split club was founded.
“We chose Prague because of the famous pub U Fleků, because Hajduk was founded here.”
