The national team of Ukraine will participate in the European Championship for the fourth time. Twenty-six names make up the final squad and their attacking power in particular may surprise the opponents. Will its players build on their club successes?

In the championship’s main group, Ukrainian footballers will face Romania, Slovakia and Belgium. The complete schedule of all group matches can be viewed here.

Pre-tournament friendlies

Coach Rebrov’s charges faced Germany in the friendly matches to start the tournament. Anatoly Trubin from Benfica Lisbon of Portugal was between the three sticks this time and thanks to his saves the match ended goalless.

In the second game, they faced the Polish national team and lost 1:3. Ukraine’s only goal was scored in the first half by twenty-six-year-old Artem Dovbyk.

They played a dress rehearsal before the start of the championship against Moldova, which they beat 4:0 thanks to goals by Yaremchuk, Tsygankov, Dovbyk and Sudakov.

The squad is full of interesting names

Several players have made it into the final squad and will definitely be in the spotlight throughout the tournament. Andriy Lunin has the biggest success in the form of winning the Champions League. The already mentioned Trubin and 30-year-old Heorhiy Bushchan from Dynamo Kiev will complete the clear number one among the three poles.

Czech fans will certainly remember the name of Maksym Talovierov, who played for České Budějovice, Slavia Prague and Liberec. He currently wears the jersey of Austrian Linz. At the age of twenty-three, he is one of the youngest players in the entire nomination.

In addition to Mudryk from London Chelsea, Ukraine can use Viktor Tsygankov and Artem Dovbyk in the offensive line. They are at an ideal football age and especially the Dovbyk-Tsygankov pair had a lion’s share in the success of Spanish Girona in the last competition year.

Promotion from the group stage?

We can say that this is an acceptable group. The Belgian national team’s form has been on a downward trend in recent years and Ukraine can prepare well for big tournaments. At the last championship they beat Macedonia and narrowly lost to the Netherlands after a 3:2 result.
