Tereza Bledá did her part tonight in the Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS), winning her match against the experienced Brazilian. However, Dana White was not impressed with her performance and as a result the young fighter did not get a contract with the world’s biggest organization. What reason did the charismatic promoter give?
Tereza Bledá won, but she has a strange taste in her throat
Victory with an aftertaste! That’s what you could call Tereza Bledá’s performance in the most important fight of her career so far. In the DWCS she fought, like Matej Peñáz a week ago, for a contract with the highest MMA league in the world.
Although, unlike Peňáz, she clearly dominated her opponent from Brazil and the judges awarded the victory to the young Czech, she did not get the contract after all.
The score after three rounds of 30:26 indicated that the win was clear-cut and the scoring judges even scored one round 10-8 for the 20-year-old fighter. So why didn’t it work out? The reason was revealed after the tournament by boss Dana White himself.
But unfortunately, Dana White was not impressed
“I heard a lot about her attitude, but unfortunately I saw very little of it,” White did not hide his disappointment according to iSport.cz. “The match was more in the clinch or on the ground,” he said.
“She entered the fight as a 6-to-1 favorite, but I don’t think she fought like that,” he explained his stance that led him not to offer her a UFC contract. “I attribute it to nerves, she’s a young fighter,” he concluded.
White also returned to Teresa in the post-fight conference. “I met Teresa a little while ago and she’s very disappointed,” he said. “But she’s only 20 years old, so she’s got everything in front of her,” he tried to encourage her.
“She won today and her price has definitely gone up,” he praised the Czech fighter. “She’s just very young, which has the advantage of a lot of time,” he said, not closing the door on a possible return to the big show.
The dream is gone for Tereza for now, but she has shown tremendous heart and talent. At 20 years old, she really has her whole career ahead of her. We’ll see what path the young fighter eventually takes. In the Octagon, she is still a valid holder of the flyweight title, will she return?
