UFC champion under fire from critics! She dared to criticize the beauty Rousey, now she reaps what she sows
Ronda Rousey is a pioneer of women’s MMA. She is the one who convinced UFC boss Dana White that women’s MMA deserves to be in the best organization in the world. But now she has become the target of criticism from one of the UFC’s female champions, she is now reaping the whirlwind.
Ronda Rousey is a pioneer of women’s MMA. She is the one who convinced UFC boss Dana White that women’s MMA deserves to be in the best organization in the world. But now she has become the target of criticism from one of the UFC’s female champions, she is now reaping the whirlwind.
Julianna Peña is now the UFC champion, having taken care of one of the biggest sensations in the history of the organization last year, defeating the dominant Amanda Nunes as a complete underdog. It was Amanda who also fought the legendary Ronda Rousey, a pioneer of women’s MMA.
It was 2011 when UFC boss Dana White publicly stated that we would never see women’s fights in his organization. A little later, however, Rousey became the first female fighter under the UFC banner, was also the first female champion, and scored her first fight in 2013.
In her MMA career she has racked up a decent 12:2 record, losing her last two fights, both by knockout, her last fight was with Nunes in 2016.
Rousey was extremely popular, and had a huge impact on the development of women’s MMA. If it wasn’t for her, who knows if women would even be fighting in the UFC. She is now wrestling in the WWE organization, which is famous for its prescribed scenarios.
Instead of respect, however, she has now received the exact opposite from the aforementioned champion. For Peña is not happy about the legacy Rousey has left behind. “She was a star, destroying people in the early rounds, but then she lost twice by knockout and never came back. So how legitimate is she? She had to escape into wrestling,” the champion expressed on the MMA Hour.
Peña, of course, wishes Rousey success in her current career, yet she believes that inside she must be consumed by the fact that she will never appear in an MMA fight again. Her legacy is said to be greatly tarnished by this, so she would welcome her return.
The UFC champion even mentioned that Rousey is now something of a joke in the MMA world. Understandably, she was referring specifically to the fact that wrestling is fake, while in the UFC, fans get to see real and genuine fights, even though the biggest MMA organization doesn’t pay millions of dollars per fight.
However, Peña has taken a heavy dose of criticism for his words on social media. And not only from fans, but also from journalists.
“The interesting thing is that we all know who Ronda Rousey is, but I never heard about who Julianna Peña is before she fought Amanda Nunes,” one fan is clear.
“Her legacy is the reason you get paid in the UFC in the first place,” added Marcos Villegas, founder of Fight Hub TV, which has over a million subscribers on YouTube.
Unfortunately for the UFC champion, most of the reactions were along similar lines. Only a few individuals agreed with her. So she threw away her credit when she became a hero to some thanks to her win over Nunes.
