Extremely lopsided and unmatched are the odds in the Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns fight considering their rankings. Chimaev is currently ranked number eleven welterweight, Burns number two. Still, the former is the big favorite.
Chimaev has created a huge buzz around him. After all, he has 10 wins in 10 fights, not once has he been in the third round. He’s finished seven of his fights in the first five minutes. Moreover, he has various stars training with him who have mostly words of praise for him.
In the UFC, the Swedish fighter had 4 fights, only one made it to the second round. He absolutely dominates in his fights, he didn’t even give anyone a chance. He asked for a bigger name and a tougher opponent, now he’s got it.
Burns at 35 years old is an experienced fighter with an impressive record of 20:4. One of his conquerors is champion Kamaru Usman, who has a reputation for being unbeatable. However, the Brazilian seems to be the first to prove that Usman can also be hit well and get him in trouble.
It is in the stand-up that Burns could potentially give Chimaev problems as well, but it is questionable how long the fight will stay in the stand-up. Burns is dangerous on the ground from the bottom, he’s a black belt in BJJ, nobody takes him down willingly.
Chimaev might take that as a challenge though and might try to make it count. He’ll not only have the height advantage in the fight, but probably the weight advantage as well, which will play in his favor. He’ll probably be able to succeed again, and it’ll probably be before the limit again.
