This weekend we can look forward to the first numbered UFC event of the year. The 270-numbered tournament will feature two famous title fights. Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo will battle for the flyweight championship belt for the third time. What to expect from the fight and what to bet on?
Their first fight was thrilling, breathtaking, amazing. A five-round brawl with no winner. Deiveson Figueiredo defended his title. In the rematch, Brandon Moreno left nothing to chance and choked out his opponent in the third round to take the title for himself.
It was a great sensation. Moreno had been fired from the UFC in the past. Now, he’s about to make his first defense, facing Figueiredo for the third time in a row, and after the previous two great fights between these fighters, fans are understandably looking forward to the completion of this trilogy.
And what to expect from this fight? Figueiredo is an experienced and excellent fighter, now experiencing the first time in his career that he has not won two fights in a row (1 loss, 1 draw). Qualitatively, he should be better than Moreno.
Figueiredo would have beaten Moreno in the first fight if he hadn’t been deducted a point. Before the rematch he had health and weight problems for a change, while Moreno gave the performance of his life.
Of course, no one should underestimate Moreno, if he can build on his last fight, we are in for an unpredictable fight.
Figueiredo, however, should be more dominant in the fight. After all, he’s more complete, he can really threaten in the stand-up as well as on the ground. Only four of his fights have ended on points, nine by KO/TKO, eight by submission.
Moreno has been especially dominant in the submissions. He hasn’t lost on points even once, while winning five times on them. He scored eleven submissions and three KO/TKOs.
The fight is unlikely to end on points. Both fighters will be looking to decide the winner before the end of the fifth round. The rounds seem to be the least risky bet. However, the odds on Figueiredo to win are also definitely worth considering.
