UEFA Best Player: best player of the 4th round of the Champions League? Poland’s ‘artistic’ Lewandowski was unstoppable
The world’s most exclusive club competition, the Champions League, has moved into the second part of the group stage. The Ruik.cz portal, which represents the Czech Republic in the Best Player UEFA poll of the German magazine Kicker, was looking for the best player as usual.
The world’s most exclusive club competition, the Champions League, has moved into the second part of the group stage. The Ruik.cz portal, which represents the Czech Republic in the Best Player UEFA poll of the German magazine Kicker, was looking for the best player as usual. Polish cannon-artilleryman Robert Lewandowski was unstoppable in a Bayern Munich jersey.
There was indeed plenty to record in the 4th round of the Champions League regular season. The 1000th goal of the most successful club in the history of the competition will go down in the annals of the royal Real Madrid, exhibited in the hall of fame by the French detonator Karim Benzema, who soon loaded a new thousand. And he brought down a defiant Shakhtar Donetsk.
The man of the last few seconds is the phenomenal Cristiano Ronaldo, levelling the score on Italian soil in injury time of both halves, thanks to these and previous depting goals (for the opponents) Manchester United are looking boldly towards the spring.
And other personalities have come to the fore: Mohamed Salah at Liverpool FC, Georginio Wijnaldum at Paris Saint-Germain, Paulo Dybala at Juventus Turin. Even Sébastien Haller continues to score goals for Ajax Amsterdam.
But Lewandowski is a certainty. “It was only a matter of time before the Polish sharpshooter was again nominated for player of the week,” judges Karel Brettscheinder, bookmaker at the Chance bookmaker.
“At his age, he is still not going to discount his performances, which are phenomenal. Itwould be hard to find a better finisher on the map of the football world,” he is not afraid to be categorical.
The Polish striker was unstoppable. “It didn’t take much for him to repeat another four-goal night,” points out Brettscheinder. “It’s certainly not in his habit not to convert a penalty,” he recalls a small setback. “Despite that little blemish, in my opinion, he deserves to be named player of the week. Three goals and an assist are more than enough reason,” the bookmaker points out.
Erich Brabec, another regular jury member, is of a similar opinion, and points out the statistic that Lewandowski has scored a whopping 81 goals in his 100th Champions League start, pushing aside his rivals – Messi has scored 77 times in 100 games, Ronaldo 64. “Simply a massacre,” the former Czech national team player said in tribute.
But he also kept a close eye on other players. “I was struck by the other performances, Ronaldo was great at the end of the half, but the one that caught my eye the most was Duvan Zapata in the Atalanta Bergamo jersey,” Brabec translates his top pick.
And he adds his arguments. “He was extremely strong in duels, the three stoppers of a quality English club couldn’t cope with him,” reveals the former outstanding central defender about the worries the players of the famous Manchester United had with the Colombian striker. They didn’t protect him. “He scored one goal and assisted one,” Brabec points out.
“I also liked him a lot,” agrees Lubos Kubik, the 1996 European vice-champion. But he, too, is throwing the biggest log into the hottest fireplace named Lewandowski. “Three goals against the famous Benfica Lisbon, one assist, five out of six shots on target, what can I say,” he lets the numbers do the talking. “And he hasn’t scored a penalty yet,” says the great specialist in this activity.
The former player of Bundesliga side 1.FC Nürnberg admires Bayern as a team. “Lewandowski has great players around him,” Kubik recalls. “The Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies, who turned 20, really caught my eye. That’s an interesting addition to the European big club from the American MLS (Major League Soccer), “ points out a Czech envoy who worked there.
