The Champions League group stages are in the second half. The fourth round will be played tonight and after Tuesday’s results, two teams are already certain to qualify. The other teams can secure it today.
Ironically, the two teams that have already secured promotion are from the same group. Group G is clearly dominated by the Anglo-German duo.
Manchester City have won all four of their matches and have already secured promotion. Leipzig lost to the Citizens, but won the other three games and, thanks to Belgrade’s draw with Young Boys, are also assured of qualification with nine points.
In Group E there will be a big fight for promotion, Atlético are first with 8 points, Lazio have 7 points and Feyenoord 6. Group F or the group of death will offer an extremely interesting spectacle until the end. All teams can still advance (Dortmund – 7, PSG – 6, AC Milan – 5, Newcastle – 4).
Even in Group H the situation has become more complicated. Barcelona could have already secured promotion, but their defeat to Shakhtar made things more complicated. Now it has 9 points, the same as Porto, Shakhtar has six. And in the next round, the Catalans will face their Portuguese opponents.
Wednesday’s schedule
And that brings us to Wednesday’s programme. In Group A, the situation is simple, if Bayern beat Galatasaray at home, they will secure their progress to the next stage.
In Group B, the situation is more complicated. Arsenal will secure promotion if they beat Sevilla and Lens also beat PSV, but the French side would not be certain to advance yet.
Group C can also offer a quick resolution. Real Madrid just need to beat Braga at home and they are in the spring. Real Sociedad could be the surprise qualifier from Group D.
The Basque team only needs to beat Benfica at home to be in the Champions League spring group. Inter are in the same position, if they beat Salzburg they are certain to qualify.
