Atlético won 3-0 at Porto and advanced to the Champions League semi-finals. The match was even and tense, and was not decided until the 90th minute. Porto will only play in the Europa League in the spring.
The first 20 minutes were very cautious on both sides, with Antoine Griezmann narrowly missing the ball in front of an empty net in the 22nd minute, and Marcos Llorente’s follow-up shot from the slot hit only the goalkeeper.
Marko Grujic then tried to score on the other end, but Jan Oblak had little to do with his slow shot. In the 31st, Luis Diaz shot much more dangerously, but the Slovenian goalkeeper was able to handle it again.
Thomas Lemar almost scored his own goal at the end of the first half and Oblak saved Gjuric for the second time.
After the change of sides, Porto came out very offensively, with two big chances in the first six minutes thrown away by Mehdi Taremi. And he regretted it. In the 57th minute, after a corner kick, the ball went to Griezmann, who just knocked it into an empty net.
Three minutes later, it could have been two goals, but Matheus Cunha finished his run with a short lob. Pepe managed to kick the ball off the line. In the 67th minute, a melee broke out on the penalty line and Yannick Carrasco was shown a red card for unsporting behaviour.
Only three minutes later, Wendell did something similar and went to the showers early for an elbow to the face. Athletic then missed two decent chances but scored the second goal anyway. Griezmann cleverly found Angel Correa, who converted the raid.
Rodrigo de Paul then scored for the visitors, and Sergio Olivera converted a penalty to make it 3-1.
