On Tuesday, the Champions League returns and fans are looking forward to the battles of the giants. Manchester City and Bayern Munich face each other. Two of the best clubs in the world, led by two fantastic managers. Thomas Tuchel wants to destroy the dreams of the Citizens again, Pep Guardiola praises his rival.
Pep Guardiola has made Manchester City one of the best teams on the planet. He’s won almost everything there is to win with them. But the most precious and noble trophy is missing. The one for the winner of the Champions League.
For once, the Citizens were far from it. That was 2021. But in the final, Thomas Tuchel had prepared a struggling Chelsea so brilliantly that season that he finished the fairytale story and won the trophy for himself and London.
“After losing the final I had to congratulate him. It happens. You win games, but you also lose games. That time we just lost. Now we are here again and we are trying to win this trophy again,” Guardiola told the club’s website.
Now Tuchel is the new manager of Bayern Munich and it is with him that he will face Manchester City along with Guardiola. The Spanish coach is looking forward to this encounter, but hopes to be on the winning side.
In any case, Tuchel is hugely respected by Guardiola. He sees him as a rival, but speaks of him as a friend and someone he is always learning something new from. “He is one of the best managers in the world, he has done great everywhere,” the Citizens coach is clear.
The two coaches have faced each other in ten games. The first time it happened was in 2014. Guardiola led Bayern, Tuchel Mohic. Subsequently, the German took over Dortmund and so they faced each other in Germany’s biggest match.
On the German stage, Guardiola was more successful against his counterpart. But it was the German who did better during Tuchel’s episode in England. When he coached Chelsea, he met Manchester City five times and won the first three games, while Guardiola dominated the last two.
However, it is worth mentioning that Tuchel beat Guardiola in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and, as mentioned, in the Champions League final. With Bayern in the cup competition, can he stop Manchester City again?
