Trpišovský: Narrow bench? No one from the roster could fit into the jersey. When someone shoots, my hair stands on end, but not Schranz

Slavia advanced to the spring stage of the Conference League, which is something they really appreciate in Eden after an extremely difficult autumn. Coach Jindřich Trpišovský even found the mood to joke about why he had so few players on the bench.

It started in the summer and continued in the autumn. Slavia has been plagued by a high turnover of players all season, so Trpišovský has to regularly reshuffle the entire squad.

Before the match with Union, several players were struck down by a virus, so the Sevivans went to Berlin with only five substitutes. When asked by journalists why Slavia had such a narrow bench, the coach of Slavia found an original answer.

“Unfortunately, no one from the management team could fit into the jersey, we couldn’t fill the bench.(laughs) No, seriously. We came to Berlin with only this line-up. All the healthy players from the roster were with us. Some had to stay at home with viruses,” Trpišovský explained to Sport.

Slavia took the lead thanks to a beautiful shot by Ivan Schranz, who went one-on-one in the penalty area, but instead of taking the knee, he chose to shoot from distance and his attempt beautifully hit the crossbar.

“Ivan scored two similar goals for Budějovice in the preparation. He hasn’t done that in Slavia so far. This is his showpiece, from 20 metres, cross up. It makes my hair stand on end when someone shoots from such a distance, but not with Ivan. He and Olayinka put in a heroic performance up front, the three Union stoppers were totally exhausted. The boys were chasing them. Schranz put in his best performance in Slavia. I’m happy for him, he went through a difficult period,” Trpišovský praised the scorers.

Sešiovans can look forward to the 1/16 Conference Finals, where they can get very interesting opponents. The following teams are in the pool: PSV Eindhoven, Leicester, Fenerbahce, Marseille, Midtjylland, Celtic, Rapid Vienna.
