Jürgen Klopp immediately set about rebuilding the team after arriving at Liverpool and the positions on both sides of the defence in particular were a big weakness for the Reds.
However, the German coach has solved this so bravely that these positions are one of the strongest points of his team. But the 22-year-old Englishman can be particularly proud of the right side in particular.
For in the summer of 2016, Klopp pulled the promising Liverpool offspring into the A-team, and he rewarded him with some great performances, which he continued until an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the Euro 2020 nomination.
Currently, Alexander-Arnold has 129 league games to his name, scoring 8 goals and assisting 34 more. Even from these stats it is clear how much of a valuable player he is for the Reds, and not only in defence.
“I am very proud of Trent. He was already 15 years old when he was so technically equipped and with a talent from God. He had all the qualities I love:: he is a born winner, he has the desire to improve, he keeps his emotions under control and above all he always trains with tremendous competitiveness and energy,” said assistant coach Klopp about the young Liverpool star.
“He has grown into the amazing man he is now. Of course, with the support of his loving family. I can still see the fire in his eyes in every training session. But I don’t see a little boy anymore, I see a real team leader. I see someone who can control his emotions, a future captain! In short, an exemplary leader,” Lijnders has no doubt about his future.
After a failed season last season, when Liverpool struggled with numerous injuries, when Klopp’s defence virtually fell apart and other positions were subsequently added to, the Reds players will no doubt be very motivated to achieve another great success.
That’s why the upcoming season promises to be a really interesting spectacle. In recent years, the traditionally strong Manchester City, the constantly improving Manchester United and the brilliantly tactical Chelsea, these should be the three clubs that will duke it out for the top spot in the new upcoming Premier League season.
Liverpool will kick off the new season on August 14 with an away game against Norwich and will welcome Burnley a week later. A relatively friendly start…
