After making it into the UFC’s top 15 heavyweights, Martin Buday has been aiming higher
Having achieved a historic achievement for his country, voices have rightly begun to be heard pointing him towards even higher goals. But is the organization overlooking him and trying to push an undefeated newcomer through?
Martin Buday has blown into the most famous MMA organization in the world like a hurricane. In a year and a half, he’s had four fights in the UFC and won them all. Two of them before the limit.
This catapulted him into the top 15 of the UFC heavyweight rankings, something no Slovak fighter had managed before. Fans began calling for a more star-studded opponent to send him to even higher heights.
And the idea was certainly not unrealistic. After all, the heavyweight division has been languishing in recent months. The departure of Francis Ngannou, aging legends Stipe Miocic, Derrick Lewis and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. A fresh wind is simply needed.
But the UFC has handed him an undefeated knockout artist that the Slovakian giant can only lose to
Only, instead of giving him an opponent he could climb past, even into the top ten, the organization gave him a fight he can only lose. The organization confirmed on its official website an opponent who is not even in the top 15.
The Slovakian giant will face the Bahraini fighter Shamil Gaziev. He is undefeated in his professional career and is considered a feared knockout artist. After all, in his eleven wins, he has finished ten of them before the limit and eight of them even in the first round.
The consolation for Buday may be the fact that he will be appearing at the last and numbered event of the year, UFC 296 on December 17 in Las Vegas. If he wins, he could then draw attention to himself during the anticipated tournament and force Dana White to finally give him an opponent from higher up the rankings.
