Transfer to Arsenal as a release from tactical “dictatorship”. I’m finally free and playing with a smile, admits Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus came to Manchester City in 2017 as a great talent. And he too has slowly begun to come to fruition. Moreover, under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, he showed that he was willing to do his best for the team’s success. However, he left the Citizens in the summer and went to Arsenal. The reason? Freedom.
The reason? Freedom.
Already the 25-year-old striker was proving at Manchester City that he had great qualities. He could score goals, set them up, but he was equally great at attacking, getting involved defensively and, in short, showing that he was a complex footballer with great character.
He also has a great understanding of football. After all, that is why Pep Guardiola liked to use him. Although this was not his dream striker, he was not disappointed. Despite everything, Jesus scored 95 goals in 236 games for the Citizens and added 46 assists.
In the summer, Gabriel Jesus swapped Manchester City for Arsenal. He now works under former Guardiola apprentice Mikel Arteta. He was expected to be one of the main movers and take a leadership role.
So far, he’s doing that perfectly. In seven league games he has scored 4 goals and added 3 assists. He enjoys football and that’s what he talked about in an interview with ESPN Brasil.
And why did he decide to transfer? “It was because of Guardiola’s understanding of football and what he wanted. It was up to you to accept it or not. For a while I accepted it, but then there was a moment when I said I wanted something different for myself. I said thank you and moved on,” expressed the Brazilian.
At Arsenal, Jesus enjoys the variety of football. At Manchester City, it bothered him that the striker often played without the ball. With Arteta, he said, he discussed the tactics of the London team a lot.
“Now I am free on the pitch. I play football with a smile on my face and I try to do the best I can,” the Brazilian added.
