Transfer from Real Madrid to Barcelona? Another big fan outrage looms in Spain
There are rumours in Spain that Marco Asensio could move to rival Barcelona when his Real Madrid contract expires in the summer. We know from the past that these transfers have caused bad blood between the two clubs. In this case, however, it is not about top players like Luís Figo.
There are rumours in Spain that Marco Asensio could move to rival Barcelona when his Real Madrid contract expires in the summer. We know from the past that these transfers have caused bad blood between the two clubs. In this case, however, it is not a top player like Luís Figo who could have his say on the subject.
Asensio transferred to Real Madrid back in 2015, but even then Barcelona wanted to bring him to their team. He eventually moved to Catalonia after all, only on a one-year loan to rival Espanyol.
The skilful Spanish left-back then experienced a golden era for the White Ballet, with whom he won three league titles as well as three Champions League trophies. However, he was never able to fulfil his potential as there was always someone who was preferred to the 182 cm tall winger.
Despite this, Asensio was and still is a very valid asset to the team as he is great to use, especially for his versatility. This is also why he hit 42 games last season, for example, even though he very often only got on the pitch during the game.
So far this season, he has played in 4 games, in which he has played a total of 47 minutes and scored once. As far as the national team is concerned, he has played 3 games for Spain this season, including two against the Czech Republic. In each game he had one assist.
However, things are getting tight for him in Madrid, according to Spanish media, and El Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona are interested in the 26-year-old winger, just as they were 7 years ago when Asensio was looking around for a new place during his time in Mallorca.
Barcelona are reportedly considering Asensio because of his age, ability and tactical adaptation, according to the Spanish daily. However, a similar story has already made its way into the English media.
Many clubs, including those in the Premier League, will no doubt be trying to acquire this versatile winger with great experience for free this summer. But it will all depend on whether he extends his contract with the White Ballet.
But if one thinks about the situation surrounding Asensio, his departure makes quite a bit of sense. Real Madrid are planning more big investments in new reinforcements in the future. The Spanish winger is currently in his prime and is apparently keen to try and make his way elsewhere, this time into the starting line-up.
However, given Barcelona’s packed line-up, it is questionable whether he would be able to do it there, as it would not be a step from the mud to the puddle after all.
