The accident was said to have occurred at 9am on Tuesday, according to Turkish media. Calik’s car should have overturned and then crashed into a fence. Rescuers checking the car found that it was Turkish footballer Ahmet Calik, who was alone in the car.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our footballer Ahmet Çalık, who won the love of our fans and our city from the first day he came to Konyaspor. Our condolences to all of us, especially to the family of our footballer Ahmet Çalık,” Konyaspor said on its social media.
The whole of Turkey is mourning Calik’s death, with almost all Turkish Super League clubs expressing their support for the family.
