Toto Wolff on the dominant Verstappen: Without him, the F1 season would have been fantastic! He is above us all, he says
Max Verstappen is dominating the Formula 1 season so far and it is only a matter of time before he celebrates his third consecutive championship title. This is understandably not to the liking of all his rivals, especially Toto Wolff, who has said that this season would have been fantastic without him.
Max Verstappen is dominating the Formula 1 season so far and it is only a matter of time before he celebrates his third consecutive championship title. This is understandably not to the liking of all his rivals, especially Toto Wolff, who has said that this season would have been fantastic without him.
First place, 314 points, ten races won out of the twelve races he’s done so far. Verstappen has been unstoppable this year, and something truly unbelievably unexpected would have to happen for him not to go on to win his third championship.
Moreover, he can equal the record of Sebastian Vettel and Alberto Ascari in terms of consecutive wins in the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix. They have won nine times in a row.
Proof of Red Bull’s total domination is the breaking of McLaren’s long-standing record from 1988. The Austrian team won the Hungaroring in Hungary for the 12th time in a row.
Verstappen and Pérez have now scored 503 points between them. Second-placed Mercedes, with 247 points, trails Red Bull by an abysmal 256 points.
Red Bull is simply unbeatable. However, the second and fourth-placed teams will still be fighting hard for the best possible position in the Constructors’ Cup. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff knows this all too well.
If it wasn’t for Verstappen, this season is fantastic
In any case, the Mercedes boss let it be known in a recent interview with Racing News 365 that without Verstappen sitting in the phenomenal RB19 monocoque, this F1 season would have been fantastic.
“I mean, you just have to take Max out of the equation. The other Red Bull (Sergio Pérez) is where we are,” Wolff said in an interview.
“It would have been a fantastic season and a close race. But you know, stopwatches never lie. There’s just one guy in one car that’s above everybody else. And we just have to catch him. We have no choice,” the Mercedes boss added.
