Toto Wolff: Ignore Max Verstappen and technical regulations work

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that if we ignore Max Verstappen in the results, we can say that the technical regulations work. The new regulations were introduced in 2022 to improve racing and level the playing field.

“The regulations seem to be effective if we ignore Max Verstappen, ” Toto Wolff said after qualifying during the British GP. He added that there was only a seven-tenths of a second difference between Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly. Wolff used this example as proof that regulations bring unexpected results.

The stables are back in the game

Toto Wolff, in his statement to the media, including RacingNews365, highlighted Albon’s performance in qualifying. Aston Martin is back in the game and so is McLaren. That’s what we want.

Wolff added: ” Max Verstappen is four-tenths of a second faster than the top eight teams on a one-and-a-half-minute lap. That’s not much difference anymore. Everyone else is within two tenths of a second. From second place to ninth, there’s a difference of two tenths of a second. That shows that the rules are working.”

Max Verstappen continues his great performance

Max Verstappen has had another great weekend. He secured his fifth pole position in a row with a flawless qualifying session. The Red Bull driver admitted that it was a bit tricky, but with the help of the team he managed to do it.

“It was a pretty crazy qualifying, it was slippery and hectic in some places. I had a little ‘accident’ on the pit lane, the car’s understeer didn’t allow me to turn and the car just kept going straight – I think there was quite a lot of damage there,” he said.

Verstappen also dominated the Silverstone race from pole position on Sunday, helping to extend Red Bull’s unbeaten run this year, which included winning its 11th race in a row last season and equalling McLaren’s record set in 1988.

The Dutch driver has consolidated his position as championship leader and there is no doubt that he is heading for a third consecutive world championship title. He was joined on the podium at Silverstone by home drivers Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton.
