Top earning fighters: McGregor has taken a big hit, with (un)popular YouTuber Jake Paul breathing down his neck
Last year, Irish fighter Conor McGregor was the highest-earning athlete on the planet, but now he has fallen considerably and is no longer the top fighter. Two boxers are ahead of him, with YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul nipping at his heels.
Last year, Irish fighter Conor McGregor was the highest-earning athlete on the planet, but now he has fallen considerably and is no longer the best fighter in the rankings. Two boxers are ahead of him, with YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul nipping at his heels.
A year ago, Conor McGregor was the highest-earning athlete on the planet, according to Forbes. However, this year he is not even in the top ten.
What’s more, he’s not even the highest-earning fighter. He has fallen to $43 million, which is certainly not bad for one unsuccessful fight and business activity. But it’s enough to get him to 35th place in the rankings.
There is not a single MMA fighter and therefore no UFC star in the top 50 highest earning athletes outside of McGregor. However, boxing stars Canelo Alvarez and Tyson Fury are not missing from the list.
Alvarez even made it into the top ten, specifically at number 8 with $90 million in earnings. He earned 85 million thanks to his boxing skills, and another 5 million thanks to sponsorship and partnership deals.
In 18th position is the aforementioned Fury, who retired after another successful defense. He earned a solid $62 million in the last 12 months.
The last martial arts personality not missing from the rankings is YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul. He earned just $5 million less than McGregor, $38 million. Paul earned 30 million for his fights, the rest he earned thanks to sponsors and support from partners.
