Tomáš Vaclík did not spend too much time in sunny Greece. After one and a half seasons he will leave Olympiakos, although he has a contract until the summer. The club has given him permission to find a new contract in the winter and it seems he is heading to the Netherlands.

Vaclik’s football CV will include another address. After Viktoria Zizkov, Sparta, Basel, Sevilla and Olympiakos, the Czech national goalkeeper will wear the fifth jersey.

He left for Greece in the summer of 2021 after losing his number one spot at Sevilla, which was taken away from him by Moroccan Yassine Bono. He was the clear number one at Olympiakos last season, netting 32 league games and 10 in the Europa League.

Even at the start of the current season, everything was in top order. Vaclik started again as Olympiakos’ number one, scoring in five league games, two in the Champions League qualifiers and six in the Europa League.

In September he went to the Czech national team meeting where he got 4 goals from the Portuguese, but in the second game against Switzerland he had to substitute at half-time. A serious shoulder injury and subsequent surgery forced Vaclik to miss the rest of the autumn.

He is unlikely to return to the Olympiakos starting line-up as the club has given him the green light to look for a new job. The Greek club reacted to the loss of Vaclik by signing the experienced Paschalakis, young Tzolakis started to get some space and having three balanced goalkeepers aspiring to be the number one is an unnecessary luxury.

Vaclik, whose contract expires in the summer, has to go out of the round. And according to Deník Sport, the national number one could head to Alkmaar in the Netherlands, where he will undergo a medical on Tuesday.

Even if the engagement in the Dutch Eredivisie does not work out, a return to the Czech Republic is not imminent. Vaclik has been linked with a return to Sparta almost every other transfer window, but the 33-year-old goalkeeper wants to stay abroad.
