Tomas Soucek: With West Ham we can rewrite the club’s history
It could be said that the arrival of Tomáš Souček to West Ham in January 2020 from Slavia has elevated this team a lot. The Czech midfielder has fitted in perfectly and the London Hammers have started to compete with the best teams in the league. Good positions in the league table and also success in European cups came.

The Czech midfielder has fitted in perfectly and the London Hammers have started to compete with the best teams in the league. The 2019/20 season was a tragic one for West Ham. The team was struggling to stay in the Premier League and nothing was working out until the Czech fighter came in. Tomas Soucek brought a new energy to the club that helped save the day.
He always left everything on the pitch. He put his whole heart into the game, which West Ham quickly grew attached to. Soucek’s contribution was also seen throughout the team as the fight for salvation turned into a fight for European Cups.
In the 2020/21 season, West Ham finished in sixth place and qualified for the Europa League. Tomas Soucek was voted Player of the Season by the fans at his club.
And now not only Soucek, but also Coufal and King and their teammates are fighting to rewrite the history of the Hammers. They managed to advance to the quarterfinals over Sevilla, for whom the Czech midfielder scored a goal. They are now up against Lyon, with whom they drew their first match 1-1.
The last quarter-final of a European competition was played by West Ham in 1981. If we were to look for the last semi-final appearance, we would have to go back to 1976, in which West Ham eventually reached the silver medals.
“I am very excited, after all it is the quarter-finals of the Europa League. A lot of the boys have never achieved that but now we are here. We are one game away from the semi-finals and we can make history,” says an excited Tomas Soucek to the club website.
“We drew the first game, so we still have a good chance. We have to believe in ourselves and be mentally prepared for the match. We have to show mentality, quality and team spirit,” the Czech midfielder urges before the rematch.
