After an unsuccessful engagement in Turkey, Tomas Pekhart returns to Legia Warsaw, with whom he won the championship twice and where he also became the top scorer. How did he comment on his return to the Polish club?
Pekhart first joined Legia Warsaw in February 2020, and for free from Spanish club Las Palmas. In the 2019/20 season, he managed to play eleven league games and score five goals, plus add two assists.
In the same season, he also enjoyed a championship title with the team. Legia and Pekhart also achieved the overall championship in the following season, and the Czech striker had a great season in terms of individual statistics as well.
He scored 22 goals in 25 league games, and also registered one goal each in the Polish Cup and Europa League.
He became the top scorer in the Polish top flight. Pekhart became the ninth king of scorers in Legia colours and the fourth foreigner to do so.
In August 2022, however, he left the Polish big club for Turkey, specifically to Gaziantep FK. There, however, he did not fare well as a goalscorer. In twelve league starts he scored only one goal and assisted on one other.
Now the thirty-three-year-old Czech striker returns to the team where he experienced one of the most successful periods of his football career.
I am happy to be returning home
“I am very happy to be returning home to Legia. My family and I have always felt very comfortable in Warsaw. Especially my daughter – she is very happy that we are back in Poland,” Pekhart admitted in an interview with the club’s website.
“I hope we will fight for the championship title again, we will definitely want to win the Polish Cup,” he added.
