Czech forward Tomas Pekhart spent only six months in Gaziantep, Turkey. He was supposed to earn good money in Turkey and try to find his shooting form again. But this choice didn’t turn out to be very lucky.
His contract was supposed to run until the summer of 2024, but now there is an agreement to terminate it. The Czech national player did not travel with the team to the training camp in Antalya.
He joined the team only in August. Another Czech player, Matěj Hanousek, is on loan from Sparta Prague.
Pekhart played 12 league games for Gaziantep and scored one goal. The engagement in the city on the border with Syria was not successful, and according to some reports, the club wanted to make room for Italian striker Simon Zaza.
However, this report has not been confirmed by the club. The main reason was said to be that Pekhart did not feel comfortable in the city and, coupled with a lack of playing time, the whole situation culminated in the termination of the collaboration.
The native of Sušice had to make a final decision after visiting the place where former national team player František Rajtoral committed suicide five years ago.
Rajtoral was suffering from psychological problems and was unhappy about the engagement in a remote part of Turkey. This tragedy has affected all football fans.
Pekhart is now back in the Czech Republic and deciding where his next steps will lead. According to iSport, the situation around him is to be monitored by Legia Warsaw, where he played probably the best season of his career, scoring 22 league goals and becoming the top scorer of the competition.
