Tomáš Pekhart became Poland’s foreigner of the year! Will he shoot down Slavia?
The Czech national striker won the award for the best foreigner of 2020 in Poland. No one can be surprised by this success. With his Legia, he celebrated winning the championship title, while scoring the most goals (22) in the Polish Ekstraklasa.
Tomáš Pekhart won the award for the best foreigner of 2020 in Poland. No one can be surprised by this success. With his Legia he celebrated winning the championship title, while scoring the most goals (22) in the Polish Ekstraklasa.
This season, the stocky striker is only slowly starting to make his mark and has had slightly less minutes so far. Coach Czeslaw Michniewicz has used Pekhart more in the domestic league so far, while in the Champions League preliminary rounds he has mostly come on from the substitutes’ bench. Nevertheless, the native of Sušice has already scored two competitive goals in the new season.
This is a big warning for the Susians, who will play Legia in the Europa League play-offs. Pekhart could be a big threat for Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges.
Slavia may be the club that catapulted the Czech striker into big-time football, but the 32-year-old sharpshooter has also had a brief stint at Sparta. So he certainly won’t be playing on emotions in the Europa League battle.
If Slavia are less vigilant, like in Budapest, and Pekhart is on the pitch, it could be a big problem for the Czech champion.
Legia Warsaw has been Pekhart’s best engagement of his career so far, if we focus on goal scoring stats. In 54 games played, he has scored 31 goals and assisted 3. He played the most games for 1. FC Nürnberg (92), but in Germany he scored only 15 goals and assisted 7.
Under his Twitter post, Pekhart received congratulations from Legia fans and later a Sparta supporter wrote to him, obviously not wishing the Red and Whites success. “Congratulations! And a hat trick on Thursday!”
