The Australian Open enters its fourth day of play on Thursday and the Czech representative Tomas Machac is expected to make an appearance from 1am. He will challenge Maxim Cressy.
the 21-year-old Machac has advanced to the Australian Open via Qualifying. In it he knocked out first Ugo Carabelli, then Bhambri and then De Jong.
But Machac’s journey didn’t end in the first round of the main tournament either. The 132nd ranked tennis player on the ATP rankings faced the Argentine J.M. Cerundolo, who is ranked 80th.
The native of Beroun defeated the tennis player a year younger than him in four sets after 6::3, 2::6, 6::4 and 6::2.
But in the second round he will face a much tougher calibre. Maxime Cressy, the 70th player in the rankings, will be on the other side of the court. He overcame John Isner after a five-set match, with three tiebreaks in the duel.
Cressy helped himself with 31 aces and never lost his serve. The two-meter tennis player is in great form, he managed six matches in the Melbourne dress rehearsal including the qualification and had a set point against Rafael Nadal in the final.
The 21-year-old talented tennis player has won all nine of his duels this year, but now he faces his toughest opponent yet.
Cressy is certainly the favourite, but Machac is not without a chance. The match shouldn’t be one-sided and we might see a multi-set contest.
