In the first round of the Australian Open, another Czech tennis player, Tomáš Macháč, is also in the game. 110th player on the ATP ranking did not have a very lucky draw when he meets the world number three, Casper Ruud, right at the start.
The Czech tennis player had a successful first day in the first round. 71. Jiri Lehecka knocked out the 23rd ranked player Borna Coric 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3.
The 20-year-old Dalibor Svrcina, who is ranked 216th, also scored a great success. He also knocked out the 64th ranked player in the world, Spain’s Jaume Munar, in three sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-2).
It is now the turn of another Czech youngster, Tomáš Macháč. But he has a difficult task. He has been assigned the world number three, Casper Ruud, for the first round.
Machac made it to the Australian Open from the qualifying rounds, first defeating the number 74 ranked German Oscar Ott, then taking on the Korean Soonwoo Kwon, who is ranked 52nd.
Just a day later, however, he fell 4-6 and 4-6 to the same opponent in Adelaide. In Australia, he also played in the United Cup, where he had to clash with Frances Tiafoe.
Casper Ruud is one of the elite, but his current form is not great. He was knocked out of the United Cup in the second round by Matteo Berrettini’s racket, and in Auckland, New Zealand, he was packing his bags after the first match, falling to Serbian Djer 6-3, 3-6 and 6-7.
But Ruud is not in an ideal mood and Macháč will want to build on his performance from the qualification. That’s why I think the Czech tennis player will win at least one set.
